After a 6 hour journey over to Ireland we were rewarded with what I can only describe as fantastic service at the Druids Glen Resort. We played Druids Heath today and were lucky the weather held up.
We managed to do a lap of the hotel looking for the first tee and eventually had to ask where it was. (Perhaps better signage would help).
From the first tee we realised our course guide was a must and found it very helpful with blind tee shots or trying to avoid the many fairway bunkers.
The course was very undulating and had some very narrow fairways. The bunkers are very similar to that of European courses, not like the sand we are used to at home!!
Being a straight hitter will benefit you a lot here as you have to pick your way round the course opposed to slogging one down the fairway and praying for a favourable lie.
Our first impression of the greens weren’t great as when approaching the first they seemed very bare and patchy in places. It was evident that work had recently been carried out on them as there was a thin layer of sand on the surface. Saying this, it didn’t affect the receptiveness and the consistently. Ok, so they were a bit bobbly, but you could get the ball to work on them with your irons and they were very very quick… 5 foot down hillers could easily be turned into a 3 putt.
All in all we enjoyed playing the course and the fantastic service we have been afforded by the very helpful and friendly staff. We are looking forward to playing Druids Glen tomorrow.
