Costa del Sol Golf Break Spotlight: Finca Cortesin

Playing golf in Spain out of season isn’t something we’d recommend but if you can cope with the heat then you’ll more than likely get a course to yourself. Finca Cortesin was a course that we had always wanted to visit after seeing it on TV when they hosted the Volvo World Matchplay Championships in 2009, 2011 and 2012. On arriving in the car park we were met by an attendant who took our equipment from the car and drove our buggy round to the practice area where balls were readily available free of charge.

Included in your green fee are several cold bottles of water in a cool box, a flannel and some tees, with an attendant meeting you after a few holes with complimentary fruit.

Costa del Sol Golf Break Spotlight: Finca CortesinWith regard to playability, Finca Cortesin is somewhere that all standards of golfers can enjoy.
The longer hitters might fancy their chances off the back tees but for those who aren’t so big or have a higher handicap, the front tees don’t have such long carries to get your first shot in play….but don’t think this makes it easy. Bunkers are very strategically placed and very few fairways are flat.

The buggies are fully equipped with GPS giving measurements in both yards or metres to pin positions and various hazards. For the better players liking yardage within 80 yards then your own GPS or range finder is advised as well due to buggies not allowed on the grass areas around the greens.

Even with the beautifully manicured fairways, you will find that the sand based Bermuda grass will grab at your club so commit to every shot!

For those using softer golf balls, play each pin a good 5 yards longer as the greens are very soft and fast, creating a lot of grip and back spin. You won’t find many straight putts on these greens with the most simple 2 putt turning into a dreaded 3 putt.

If you appreciate a good view whilst playing a round of golf then Finca has that too with The Mediterranean, Gibraltar and many mountains visible from several holes.

Overall, Whereshalliplaygolf.com thinks that any golf holiday to Spain should include a visit here where the likes of Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher and Nicolas Colsaerts have triumphed, so contact us and we’ll arrange everything for you at the best prices.
